Our railway operations meet - and in many cases exceed - the regulatory guidelines as required by Transport Canada and the Federal Railroad Administration. Our day-to-day focus is to uphold best-in-class safety standards in the interests of our employees, customers and communities. We achieve this through proactive safety initiatives, diligent processes and attentive everyday management.
Operations Risk Mitigation
At NBM Railways, we have a robust, multifaceted approach to risk mitigation - helping to prevent accidents from happening.
Rail flaw detection
Identifies flaws not visible to the human eye (like bolt hole breaks, web and head cracks), through X-Ray and ultrasonic technologies. The frequency of our rail flaw detection meets or exceeds the once per year requirement of US and Canadian regulators.
Track geometry evaluation
Evaluates track under load conditions at key points, like rail curves and slopes, embankments and also verifies speed limits at these points. The frequency of our track geometry evaluations meet or exceed the US requirements and meet Canadian standards.
Visual Rail Inspections
The frequency of our weekly inspections exceed the US and Canadian requirements of once per week. Additional inspections are also conducted during extreme summer temperature and winter snowfall conditions.
Hot Box Detectors
We have numerous hot box detectors on our main line to measure temperatures in wheel assemblies as well as axle count. These results are then communicated to our train crew immediately via radio.
Certified Repair and Maintenance Facility
The American Association of Railroads has certified our rail car and locomotive facility, where our outbound trains receive a certified inspection.
